- Encourage and mentor Maine’s youth to embrace a life of character.
- Create a program of specific activities targeting middle school students to provide them the opportunities to develop their unique character potential.
- Establish a financially viable scholarship endowment that will self-perpetuate.
- Bring together parents, educators, scholarship recipients, board members and advisory board members to promote, build and maintain a significant statewide program.
Judy is founder and president of KDK Consulting Group – a firm that specializes in branding, brand integration and communications all with one goal in mind: to align an organization’s internal communications (culture, values, brand) with its external communications (public relations voice, marketing messages and brand promise.) She previously was president of Burgess Advertising & Marketing in Portland, and held senior communications management positions in national and international firms in the Washington, DC area.
She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Cumberland County YMCA and is on the President’s Advisory Council for Southern Maine Community College and the Maine Governor’s Council on Physical Activity. Judy is a former president of the Maine Public Relations Council and was named the recipient of the Council’s Edward L. Bernays Award for outstanding achievements in public relations. She holds a BS in Journalism from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and currently resides with her husband and son in Saco.
Curtis Mildner is President and owner of Market Decisions a survey research firm that specializes in research for health care, public policy and business. He has served in senior management positions at a Fortune 500 utility, an architectural products company, and a communications service business. He has an MBA from the University of Virginia and a Bachelors of Science degree from Rutgers University. With one son a recent college graduate and another son in and out of college, he understands both the importance of a college degree and the difficulty in paying for it.
Annalee Rosenblatt, Labor Relations/Human Resources Consultant for over 30 years in Maine. Member and former chair of the Scarborough Board of Education, Chair of the Scarborough 350th Anniversary Celebration Committee. Former Chair of Mainely Character Board. “Mainely Character” offers students an opportunity to be recognized for their civic contribution to their school, Town, state or country which makes participation an attractive and worthwhile way to spend my time and energy. Seeing the wonderful qualities of our young people during the scholarship awarding process makes the time so very worthwhile.
Mary Lynn Engel
Mary Lynn has 30 years in the marketing and communications industry, including development of brand positioning for a Fortune 50 Company and brand positioning for Case Western Reserve University ‘s largest college and library. Mary Lynn is currently handling the marketing communications for the Institute for Civic Leadership and is an adjunct professor of marketing and communications at Southern Maine Community College, University of Southern Maine and St. Joseph’s College.
As executive director of public affairs, Bob Caswell is responsible for the University of Southern Maine’s communications, community relations, and legislative advocacy. He is a former president of the Maine Public Relations Council, and was named the recipient of the Council’s Edward L. Bernays Award for outstanding achievements in public relations. Bob, a 1974 USM graduate, currently is a member of the Maine Press Association Board of Directors, and chairs the association’s Hall of Fame Committee. He and his wife, Diane, are residents of Gorham.
Patrick has been involved with online marketing and website design for 13 years. He enjoys running Dooley New Media and currently works at Fairchild Semiconductor as lead web technologist. Born and raised in Maine he appreciates the opportunity to work with the passionate individuals involved with the Mainely Character Scholarship organization and the inspiring applicants that apply each year.
Bill is President of Penley Associates, Inc, in Scarborough, ME. The company provides contracted sales representation for small companies seeking growth through personal contact with current and prospective customers. Bill founded the company following a 34-year career with the US Postal Service where he held numerous jobs including Postmaster, Business Customer Relations Manager and most recently National Account Manager. Bill, a graduate of the University of Maine, has been active in many community programs including the American Lung Association, Little League Baseball, and several church committees Bill has served as Treasurer of Mainely Character since 2006.
Carol graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Carol is a CPA, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional, Certified Fraud Examiner (retired), Insurance Licensed (Life, Health, Annuities) and a Notary Public. Carol provided business consulting as well as prepared individual/corporate income tax returns for 29 years, worked 18 years at UNUM Insurance in a variety of positions and was recognized as an expert in several capacities including representing UNUM on several IRS committees. In 1999, Carol decided to return to providing financial advice to individuals and is the President of Poulin Investments & Advisory Services, a Maine-licensed Investment Adviser. Carol believes that in order to provide world-class service and guidance, a financial/investment professional should be free from the influences present at many of the traditional Wall Street firms.
